Eau de parfum, widely favored in the United States, typically offers up to 20% concentration, making it a strong and versatile option. Eau de toilette, with around 10% concentration, is light enough for everyday use. Even softer is eau fraîche, a refreshing choice with up to 7% fragrance concentration.

Start by thinking about the scents you naturally enjoy in everyday life—this often leads you toward a fragrance family that fits your taste. Consider when and where you plan to wear the scent; a bold, sensual perfume may be perfect for special occasions but too strong for the office. Test fragrances on your skin by applying a small amount to your wrist or inner elbow so your body heat can reveal the full range of notes. Keep in mind that the same perfume can smell very different from one person to another due to skin chemistry. If possible, try a sample first to understand how the scent develops throughout the day.
